Art

The art I do is doggedly experimental. I tried following art books and online tutorials but it was like being trapped in a secondary school. Some of the books and videos have been useful, but often tedious. Much I have come across has been irritatingly dogmatic. But I understand that not everyone is comfortable learning largely through experience. Do it the way that works for you. Art Shack run by the irrepressible Maggie Allmark in Shrewsbury, has been an inspiration. I have also met some lovely, fantastic and talented artists through Shrewsbury Open Studios and Drawn Collective .

I think all creative expression is a never ending feedback loop. You make a mark and reflect and then make another and you just keep going until you arrive somewhere satisfying or inspiring. It’s like jazz improvisation. You hear something, you make a response, you listen, you reflect and you make another sound.
